An Aussie man has spoken of the terror he endured after his credit card and cash were stolen.
The male, who does not wish to be identified, reveals to the Daily Telegraph how he met a man at the Oxford Hotel and after inviting him back to his Potts Point flat had his cash, keys and mobile phone stolen.
However, the tormentor had not finished his work - returning to the apartment the following day with an accomplice threatening the man with "what could have been a gun", demanding his credit cards and forcing him to divulge his pin number.
And although the man was able to cancel his credit cards, he points out that more than $2,000 was withdrawn, with his home subject to numerous attempted break-ins.
"I have never lived in fear of anyone and this has been the most harrowing experience," he adds, in news that could remind Aussies of the need for credit card security.
Meanwhile, the Australian Tax Office recently warned that fraudsters may attempt to pretend to be from the ATO in a bid to get people's credit card details in the build-up to the cash payouts set to be given under the financial stimulus package.
