A Toowoomba business is warning locals to be aware of a
credit card scam operating in the area.
Julie Carter, general manager of information technology business Hunts, points toward the case of a woman - Kerri Rogers - who received a telephone call from a man claiming to be a Microsoft engineer.
Stating that she had an urgent error on her computer, he claimed that unless somewhere in the region of $700 to $800 was paid immediately to him to fix the problem things would get worse, the Toowoomba Chronicle reports.
Before ending the call, Ms Rogers believes that she would have been asked to hand over her credit card details.
However, Ms Carter points out this had definitely been a scam, as Microsoft would never contact customers this way
"Don't give them any information about your computer or input any directions from them, but most important of all don't give them your credit card details," she claims.
In other credit card crime news, it was recently revealed a man stole a purse from a college in Dandendong, spending around $600 the cards that were contained in it.
