Be aware of credit card scam, expert warns

A credit card scam is doing the rounds in the Eyre Peninsula, which could encourage others to be aware elsewhere in Australia.

People should be wary of Aussie credit card scams in the Eyre Peninsula area, one computer expert has warned.

Robert Preiss warned locals to watch out for a phone con that is happening in the region, the Eyre Peninsula Tribune reports.

He noted that the fraudster asks the unsuspecting individual to download a file on their computer and then for their credit card details.

But Mr Preiss stated that people should not provide the caller with any details at all, adding: "Please be aware that you need to be vigilant and not be too quick to click on a deal that looks to good to be true."

This advice comes after Chris Taylor, who has written a book to help consumers and businesses protect themselves from cons involving credit cards, pointed out earlier this month that individuals from organised gangs or just bored teenagers are pulling off these scams, the Sunshine Coast Daily reports.
