Retailers should be vigilant in checking the signature on credit cards, one theft victim has noted.
A credit card theft victim has called for retail employees to check the signatures on the back of the products more thoroughly.
Browns Plains resident Judy Sands had her wallet stolen from her van and the offender made purchases of $600 with the device, the South-East Advertiser reports.
The Queensland inhabitant said that out of all of the shops in which items were bought with the stolen
Aussie credit card, workers did not even check to see if the card's owner was a Mr or Mrs, nor ensure the signature matched.
This call for action was echoed by Michael Leafe, a Browns Plains Police Senior Sergeant, who said: "To ensure the integrity of credit cards and the security of any purchases made by credit cards, retail outlets should ensure their staff are actively inspecting signatures made on receipts."
Last month, the Commonwealth Bank launched a new security code system to enable extra security for online shoppers.
