One firm has warned its customers about a telephone scam.
The Bank of Queensland (BOQ) has warned its customers to be on the lookout for a telephone scam.
It released a security alert to inform people that conmen have been ringing individuals and claiming to be from the organisation and notifying them about overcharged fees on their bank account.
Callers are also saying they are from government agencies, such as the Office of Fair Trading and the Australian Tax Office.
The scammers then ask for details of the consumer's credit cards or bank accounts in order to return the money.
But the firm warned: "Always verify the number you are calling belongs to the organisation you are trying to contact. If in doubt, visit their website to obtain their contact details."
This news comes after police announced last month that a credit card fraud scheme was targeting vulnerable jobseekers from recruitment websites, who are being offered large amounts of money.
