A Labour party candidate has been cleared of any official misconduct, although he was found to have credit card issues.
The Crime and Misconduct Commission (CMC) has declared there were minor issues of non-compliance on corporate credit cards at the Whitsunday Regional Council.
And this comes after the CMC "found no evidence of official misconduct" regarding an investigation into 17 allegations, which also saw Labour party candidate and mayor of the council Mike Brunker cleared of misconduct allegations.
However, Mr Brunker said there were paperwork issues with his credit card, in reference to the organisation's minor issues ruling.
He told the Australian Associated Press (AAP) that he had declared his innocence from day one.
"I'm intending to win the next election and this'll be a good wake-up call for those people who choose to run the smear campaign," he added.
This news comes after three Australian banks reported fraud complaints after the Australian Bankers Association noted that the firms said conmen had spoken to their customers and asked for Aussie credit details, the AAP reported.
