People living in the outer suburbs of Brisbane are in more credit card debt than those in the elite parts of the city, according to figures.
There are more Brisbane outer suburbs in
credit card or personal loan debt than the ones in the elite areas, recent figures stated.
Beenleigh, Camira and Springfield Lakes are three places which have households that are one month behind on repayments of credit cards and personal loans, according to Debt Mediators.
The statistics, reported in the Brisbane Times, were compiled from people who had sought advice from the organisation throughout 2009.
Within the outer suburbs the average debt was found to be between $27,765 and $33,597.
Ben Paris, of Debt Mediators, said that people in financial trouble have usually spent around five or ten per cent more than they can afford.
Parts of the Gold Coast including Kingston, Woodridge and Palm Beach made up 15 per cent of borrowers who were at least one month behind on
Aussie credit repayments.
This news comes after investment bank UBS found that main and regional bank loan officers expected credit standards to be tightened further over the next six months, as reported by the Australian Associated Press.
