A man who was conning Australian retailers in a $400,000
credit card scam has been jailed for two years and nine months.
Malaysian Ching Boon Goh was the middle man in the two-month long scheme in which he received more than $225,000, the Australian Associated Press reported.
Overseas students used fake and stolen credit cards to buy gift cards up to the value of $500 that Goh sold on to another man - with Dick Smith Electronics and David Jones among the stores targeted - the Victorian County Court heard.
Judge Damian Murphy called the scheme a "sophisticated" one that involved a "large amount of money".
Goh is to be deported to Malaysia following the end of his sentence the court heard that his visa had expired when he committed the
Aussie credit offences.
The news comes after the public transport minister Martin Pakula told the Herald Sun earlier this month that the Victorian Taxi Directorate has received grievances about credit card fraud in cabs.
