Consumers urged to be aware of spate of credit card thefts

People are being warned to beware of a spate of credit card thefts taking place in Boroondara.

Aussie credit consumers have been warned to keep these items and other valuables secured after a spate of burglaries in Boroondara.

The Progress-Leader reported that three houses were targeted by burglars in the region within a five-day period and items such as cash, laptop computers and credit cards were stolen - in some cases, while the victims were still at home.

A credit card stolen from one address was later used to make purchases, according to senior sergeant Daryl Cullen, a detective in Boroondara.

He pointed out that credit card holders would do well to keep these items hidden from opportunistic thieves and advised homeowners to make sure their properties are locked - as it appeared that burglars may have taken advantage of windows left open due to the summer heat.

Aussie credit card holders were recently advised to beware of a Facebook scam which encourages people to share their bank details to get a free sample of tea shipped from the United States.

The Gladstone Observer wrote that one woman said she noticed several companies withdrawing funds from her bank account over a 12-month period after she signed up for the offer.
