NAB customers warned of banking scam

Consumers have been warned of an email scam currently doing the rounds.

National Australia Bank (NAB) customers have been advised to be on the lookout for an Aussie credit scam currently in operation.

A SmartCompany article points out that the bank has posted a notice on its website containing details of a spate of emails from fraudsters pretending to be either NAB, the police or Visa.

Under the scam, the criminals ask for customers to confirm their identity or make a payment in a bid to gain access to credit card details, internet banking passwords and other pieces of personal and financially sensitive data.

However, NAB points out that such messages are fake and should be ignored.

"Do not click on any links, open attachments or enter any personal information", the publication notes the bank as stating, as customers are advised to update anti-virus software and use SMS security features to protect themselves.

Last month, Robyn Sykes pointed out in a Yass Tribune article that online banking users should ensure their passwords are strong enough so that their accounts cannot be compromised by cybercrooks.
