Those travelling over the Christmas season are advised to inform their credit card provider of such plans.
With Christmas just a few weeks away, people may be looking forward to going away for the holidays.
However, one expert states that thought needs to be lent to finances before setting off.
Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, Laura Menschik, managing director of the WLM Financial Group, points out holidaymakers should inform their
credit card supplier of where they are planning to travel over the Christmas period.
In addition, travellers should keep a hard copy of their card details and other documents - such as tickets, hotel bookings and passports - with them.
Those going away over the festive season were also advised to make sure they have enough money in their
bank account and to set up automatic payment systems to prevent themselves from being hit with late payment charges for any bills they receive while away.
Holidaymakers could also be interested in recent guidance from Kate Schneider where in a News.com.au article she pointed out that tourists should seek an account that does not impose
card fees when using an ATM overseas.
