Businesses 'should look to cut travel costs'

Firms have been urged to take steps to reduce their business travel expenditure.

Have you considered using the complimentary travel insurance that comes with your credit card?

In a Daily Telegraph article on business travel, it was suggested that such cover is often offered free with credit cards.

However, firms are advised by FCm Travel Solutions to look closely at the terms and conditions of their plastic product for any limitations, something that could interest those looking to compare accounts.

Meanwhile, organisations eager to reduce their travel spend were advised to consider whether they can purchase more cost-effective classes of transportation, for instance economy instead of business class.

Other tips for saving also saw businesses urged to check for special discounts and deals on car hire for corporate customers and to book flights as early as possible.

"Travelling to visit clients or colleagues is an important aspect of revenue generation for any business, but it can also be costly," Shannon O'Brien, FCm Travel Solutions executive general manager, tells the publication.

Such comments come as Claire Harvey pointed out in a recent Sunday Telegraph article that "Australians have traditionally been useless" when it comes to saving money.
