Aussie credit cards have been used by some teens when gambling with their friends.
A betting epidemic is hitting Australia's teenage population - with implications for some Aussie credit cardholders - it has been reported.
The Sydney Morning Herald explains that an increasing number of teenagers are betting outlandish items in games with their friends.
Some Aussie credit cardholders have faced bills run up by their offspring in the pursuit of their gambling addiction.
Meanwhile, the research from Central Coast Problem Gambling Service found one girl who had bet away her virginity.
By the age of 14, almost two-thirds (62 per cent) of Aussies have gambled for money, the study found.
Three years later, this figure rises to 77 per cent of 17-year-olds who have wagered money or electronic goods on a game of chance.
Guidance from the Central Coast Problem Gambling Service advises that gamblers may feel as though they are in a "dark and scary place" when they realise their addiction.
However, it adds that there are plenty of options available - ranging from professional advice to the help of friends - to overcome the situation.
