Police in New South Wales are warning people to be wary of a
credit card scam currently in operation.
Following a call from a concerned member of the public to the Public Information and Inquiry Centre, the police force reveals details of an operation where fraudsters attempt to obtain consumers' credit card details under the pretence that they are collecting money to help the victims of recent flooding on the north coast.
However, deputy commissioner David Owens reveals that no such appeals are in operation.
"At no time should anyone provide their credit card details over the phone to anyone claiming to be collecting for flood victims," he claims.
Meanwhile, those who have been targeted by such criminals are advised to get in touch with Crime Stoppers as soon as possible.
However, Westpac Bank recently revealed that a range of support measures aimed at helping those affected by the flooding in NSW and Queensland, which will see
Westpac credit card customers be able to apply for an emergency credit increase.
