Consumers in Victoria are being warned to keep aware of a
credit card con currently in operation.
VicRoads, the state's highway department, is advising people to ignore a phone scam operation currently doing the rounds.
It reports that a number of Victoria residents have received calls from someone claiming to be from VicRoads, who asks recipients for personal information such as their credit card details and vehicle license numbers, the Star News Group reports.
However, the department states that it has nothing to do with the calls and that those being targeted by such criminals should not give out their credit card information or any other personal details.
In addition, residents receiving such calls are being advised to get in touch with Crime Stoppers.
Meanwhile, businesses in the New South Wales city of Wagga Wagga were urged to be particularly vigilant when processing credit card transactions as a number of retailers in the southern Albury district have recently become the target of organised gangs of credit fraudsters.
