A Maribyrnong pensioner has revealed how she has to use
credit cards to help supplement her spending.
Speaking to the Footscray, Yarraville and Braybrook Star, 64-year-old Linda Biberhof points towards the money management troubles she is currently facing.
Receiving a total of $570 every fortnight in disability pension payments, Ms Biberhof reveals the majority of this money is spent on household bills and medication.
As such, she has had to turn to credit cards to help pay for food.
"I've been using the credit cards just to fill up the cupboards," she claims, adding that on one card she owes some $1,800, while on another she in the red to the tune of $4,000.
And despite the government's announcement that pensioners will see an increase in payments, she claims that the fact this will not take place until September and rising living costs will not see people be significantly better off.
Meanwhile, Brisbane mother Sharon O'Callaghan recently told the Australian that she used the government's first financial stimulus package to pay off her family's credit cards.
