The thought of online
credit card crime is becoming an increasing area of concern for Aussies - particularly as the financial crisis rumbles on, new research shows.
In data published by Unisys, just under two-thirds (63 per cent) of people believe that their risk of being a victim of identity theft and related crime would grow as the economic downturn continues.
Indeed, the main concerns
Aussie credit consumers have is the thought of other people obtaining their credit and debit card details.
Andrew Barkla, vice-president and general manager of Unisys Asia Pacific, points out that the research shows a rise in concern regarding "the security of online activities such as shopping and/or banking, as well as growing concern about financial fraud; both issues which people perceive to be a greater risk in a declining economy".
Meanwhile, Detective Sergeant Rodney Mills recently pointed out that ATM skimming and credit card scams are becoming an increasingly widespread problem in Australia.
