Aussie credit card holders are being urged to make sure they keep their possessions safe.
Police are warning people to be aware of an international gang targeting
credit card customers across the North Coast, in cities including Taree, Syndey and Forster.
It has been revealed that a man and woman have been arrested after carrying out a string of larceny offences earlier this month, the majority of which relate to obtaining credit cards and pin numbers by fraudulent means.
The stolen information was then used to withdraw money from credit cards, with many of the gang's victims elderly residents.
Now, Aussies are being reminded of the need to keep their personal possessions safe.
"Unfortunately, many people don't watch their valuables closely enough and leave them at their feet under restaurant or cafe seats, within easy reach of thieves," a police spokesperson states.
Speaking in Sydney earlier this month, Dr Philip Lowe - assistant governor at the Reserve Bank of Australia - called for more to be done to improve credit card security for online transactions.
