Following Commonwealth Bank’s network failure yesterday, ANZ have been alerted to a security flaw which is set to affect its online banking service for weeks.
CommBank customers were without access to cash last night after its NetBank, ATM and EFTPOS services all failed, a repeat of similar problems experienced last December.
Now ANZ has been struck after a security publication altered the bank of a technical flaw that allows statements to be retrieved through a browser’s history. ANZ have reacted by disabling the eStatements feature of its internet banking statement, but have reported that it could take several weeks to resolve.
The bank pledged to send printed statements by mail until the resolution of the problem, and described fixing it as 'a priority'.
"While we're actively working with Salmat to address the issue we have decided today to temporarily disable the eStatement functionality," an ANZ spokesman said.
"Customers that have currently elected to receive electronic statements will now receive a hard copy statement until the issue is resolved."
The bank reports that it has not been made aware of any security incidents or breaches resulting from this eStatements issue.
Are you a CommBank or ANZ account holder affected by these incidents? Are you comfortable with the security of your bank accounts? Let us know!
