Around $80 million has been conned from Aussie banks in the past 12 months, one industry expert has noted.
In the past 12 months an estimated $80 million has been taken from Australian bank accounts.
This is according to Det Sen-Sgt Bill Nash, of the major fraud squad, who noted that some Eftpos workers are being convinced to help out crime gangs, the Herald Sun reports.
Fraud squad intelligence has revealed that $40,000 has been offered to Eftpos staff in order to talk them into helping out the conmen who are attempting to skim money from an Aussie bank account.
Mr Nash admitted that for some it is difficult to turn down that amount of cash.
He added: "They get progress payments along the way. It's very attractive for them to turn a blind eye."
Earlier this week, a piece in Jeweller magazine noted that jewellers throughout the country had been targeted in a
credit card scam that begins with a Singaporean buying syndicate sending an email to companies.
